It is that question that brings us to the point of being thankful, grateful and satisfied with 'home." Arriving to this point of choosing that place, those stones, that dirt, those animals and all that goes with that sense of 'home," is one of the keys to enjoying life regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in.
You have captured and very thoughtfully an written expression of that sense of belonging and joy of being that so many people chase all over the world to find. Some try to purchase it, some attempt to extort it from others, while some do not see that they have in their hands (they have the choice) all they need to begin to build that small personal garden of fragrant plants of personality, strong and sturdy stones of character and the beautiful fruits of their labors (grapes and wine in your case).
I have not had the blessing of staying in one place, partly because of my parents work and then partly because of the nature of my own work - but you have put down a lovely picture for 'blooming where you are planted" that has allowed us to peek over the fence and appreciate you choices and all the good that comes with them. I am one of those who came back. You see, in Bulgaria many people go away and never come back. It is a kind of national sickness. Some go for education and find jobs, start their life away. Some go to seek new lives and find them (or not, but prefer either way not to come back). Many say that in Bulgaria, because we have too many and all sorts of problems, life is difficult, even impossible.
I disagree. Yes, in Bulgaria is difficult, but so is in the other countries, especially for a foreigner. On the other hand here you are at your homeland. I believe that every person has this special bond with the land where he/she was born. That the soil itself gives you the power to go on and be strong and create. Create. Isn't this the most important and most meaningful part of the humans' lives?
I believe it is. And this is why I came back to my homeland, to my family, to the place where I can grow and be.
In Bulgaria we have this saying which literally translated goes something like "A stone weights on its place", and in reality it means that every person has his/hers place under the sun and needs to be there to fulfill his/hers best self in life.
Now I create. I help, and care and watch the land, my land, create grapes and from them I create wine. It is a simple life. Not an easy one, but simple, and full of small joys. I will continue my work and hope for the best. And weight on my place.
I hope that I've made my choice right. No. I am sure. And what choices did you make for your lives?
