There is no better way to see a place but by the eyes of a foreigner. When you belong to a place, it also belongs to you, its stories belong to you, its spirit is known for you. You develop a certain way of seeing things. It is a bit sad, but on the other hand it will always be your home.
As a foreigner looks at the same things s/he sees a completely new world. S/he notices things that you have never even thought of, because they are just a small part of your place. S/he finds magic in what is pretty ordinary for you.
For example, is completely normal for me to go to the oven every morning and buy fresh and often warm bread. It is something I wouldn't miss, because we don't like old bread. For our visitors the Greek bread is like a small miracle, because they are use to packed loafs from the supermarket or no bred at all. They are very impressed with this everyday practice and the rediscover the pleasure of having something so simple, but genuine and tasteful.
To go to a new place with opened mind is like turn to a child. Every small detail is a message for you, every stick is a sword and very leaf is a peace of art. To be both a traveler and a host has its charms and shows you in its own way the other side of the (extra)ordinary. It is something I think, to cherish and love about life - the opportunity to be a discoverer each day, each moment
