Every single breath we take is a new chance for us. Every moment of our lives is a moment of free choice. Whether we live alone or with our families, in a city or in a small town, a stressed or a calm life, we choose it daily, within every second. One can always change his/hers life drastically in a matter of seconds. A single decision can shape who we are for the next ten or more years.
So why don't we live how we want? Why do we decide where it ends?
It is, of course, easier said than done, but in an age where most of the things are within our grasp and the unknown is a very small part of the existence, there really isn't a logical explanation why one would live in a way he/she dislikes. In a strange manner we see ourselves as we are expected to. In most cases there isn't really someone telling us what we should or should not do, but we still follow the tracks, like we are bond in some loop that show us what our lives should look like.
I admire the courage of people living in more conservative societies who are brave enough and change their lives. I think that they need to deny a lot of things, people even, in order to do this and still they follow their vision. On the other hand, we need just to say the word and get what we want and we don't always do it. Imagine the hard path a tribe child who wants to become an animation artist, for example, should go and the same path for a child from a Western middle class family.
I once saw a documentary about a family, who lived in a very distant and cold part of the world. The parents had encouraged the children to go to school and the little ones had decided that they wanted to. So, in order to get to the school, they needed to go walk a distance in a manner of kilometers daily and cross a wide river walking above it, using the ice. And they, with their father taking them every morning, were doing it. Every day.
Sometimes life is difficult. Sometimes doing what you really want to, comes with a price. But isn't what really makes it sweet - knowing you have beaten the odds?
I believe that everyone should be a forger of his/hers own destiny. That actions must be taken when one feels like it. That there is a hidden opportunity within every breath given to us - it is like a gem waiting to be found, like a treasure map waiting to be unfold. We should be inspired by the example of those who really fight to spread their wings and fly aside them. Life is a gift we should honor with the right decisions.
