When I got up this morning the sun was showing a very small part of its face above the water. It was shy today, but it was smiling. I hoped that the luck would smile to me as well.
I new that today I needed to get to the port as fast as I could, because the catch the day before was very poor and I needed a good one to get to the end of the month. I tried really hard not to wake up Anny but, of course, I didn't manage it. The woman has the ears of a cat! She smiled sleepy and gave me a kiss. It was to be a good day, I knew it.
I bought a coffee on my way to the port and drank it. On the port itself I bought another one from Victor's coffee shop. He wished me luck.
I got on the boat and started the engine, while taking care for the rest of the preparations. While I was working it was singing with its deep, calming voice. It made me whistle too. Just before I took off I saw Martin's wife on her way to her shop. She waved and showed me thumbs up. I waved in response and headed to the sea. It was a beautiful, peaceful morning. The waves were rocking the boat just enough to show me that I am not in a lake; the wind was salty and fresh, the sun was already up and shining with all of its power. I was home.
On the far end I saw an albatross flock and I hurried that way. About half an hour I just floated around, looking for signs. And then I saw the best one. At first, I thought I was imagining it, but soon realized I really had seen a sparkling silver back above the water. Because I saw a few more a second later. Dolphins! This was the best that could have happened. I turned the boat and followed them.
I came back with enough catch to take care of things for more than a week. I sold everything fast and on a good price, because I was the first one to go out in the sea today and the first one to come back.
While walking back home smelling like fish (many fish), I saw on a bookstore shelf a book me and Anny really wanted to read it for some time now. I got in the bookstore and in turned out that it wasn't just that one book, it was series. I took them all and came home with really good catch.
Tomorrow I'll need to be first again.
