Although we all wish to be somewhere away and have a dreamy vacation, unfortunately we can not all be away all summer. But instead of feeling bad about it, one can look for some summer fun in the city.
First, and most important for me is that in the summer there aren't a lot of people in the big cities. When the crowd is gone and the smog is lifted one can see the true beauty of his/her city - the streets, the buildings, the churches, the flowers, the people, the sky. When the rush is gone is like some magic that makes everyone, who were until now blind and deaf, to clearly see the color of the trees, the charms of the small city gardens and to smell the summer, to hear the crickets' song.
A divine pleasure in the summer city is lying down at a blanket in the park. Not that it is not divine to do it in a forest, but the moment when you find that spot away from the buzz and stop hearing the cars and the steps is just precious. Lying down and watching the sky through the branches and the leaves, for a moment there you loose your connection with the reality and you are not quite sure where you're at this moment. You are free from all thoughts and all restrictions of the current situation.
Of course, we can not not mention the in purpose city entertainments - the summer cocktails, the pool parties, the events in the open, the farmer market places; the pleasure to have a late dinner somewhere outside and an even later walk with only the sound of your steps to keep you company; the exhibitions in the open; the smiled faces in the parks in the late evening.
Don't you see some charm in all this?I personally do. And I am glad and happy that all of the above (and the ice cream!) exist so we could have a not-bad-at-all city summer.
