About an year ago me and some friends visited a hidden beach. Hidden, meaning with no paved roads whatsoever leading to it, no hotels nearby, no restaurants (except a small booth with nothing but beer and fish). It is not a secret place though - there were a lot of other people, many of them camping.
We had a great day away from civilization. We had fish and chips, almost had mussels (thank God, I don't like them), we swam around, took a walk (some great photos came from there). This walk remained in my head with the question - why do we go to the seashore in resorts?
I seriously don't get it - why one would like to go to the seashore, supposedly to reunite with nature and be close to the Sea, and in the end sleep in a hotel room, eat in a restaurant and use his/hers time to buy stuff and drink cocktails?
I think that it would be much nicer if all the beaches were flora and fauna reserves and people would go somewhere nearby to camp or in a small cottage or villa and go to the sea every day in union with the wild life. I imagine how in that case we could sleep in tents near the see, having fire every evening and just talking - telling stories, complaining a bit, remembering, sharing, dreaming. We would forget our problems, all the worries and the world altogether. We would swim in the sea as free, as we can be, kilometers away from every other people in the world. Now, that is a vacation! After such time I have no problem getting back to work and be times more productive and creative.
The many people, the noise, the bars, the restaurants, they only get us even more tired. After all, we don't need the sea to get from those, we all have them in our everyday life. In the end, this is something one could say not only about the seashore - it is the same with the mountain, the small villages, the forests.
I don't know if I am right, that it would be better in all places, but I would most definitely prefer this kind of vacation, wherever I go.
