Festival season is upon us, y’all. That means it’s time to count your savings, book a plane ticket and get some good music in your system. Live is always better! So here are 5 amazing music festivals in Europe this year.
One of the best ones out there, this festival is held in Novi Sad, Serbia. It’s also quite affordable, considering the artists you’re gonna listen to between 14-16 of July: this year, the main headliners are The Prodigy, and we’ll also hear from Bastille, David Guetta, Ellie Goulding, Hurts, Nina Kraviz and quite a lot more to excite you, no matter what your music preference is.
Known for its amazing stage design, this is the largest electronic music festival. It takes place in the town of Boom and this year, everybody will move to the rhythms of Alesso, Armin van Buuren, Fedde Le Grand, Tiesto, Deadmau5 and many, many more. The festival campground, called DreamVille, welcomes up to 38, 000 visitors and brings together more than 200 different nationalities: the experience there is one to remember.
The open-air festival takes place in Telegrafbukta (a popular camping site in Norway) and blasts mostly rock music. An amazingly beautiful location also, so bonus points for that. The three day event starts at July 21st, and the headliners for this year are Iggy Pop, Gogol Bordello, Dumdum Boys, Belillos, and Weezil Zappa playing Frank Zappa (or a son playing his dad’s music).
Celebrating its 22nd birthday this year, the festival in Budapest offers parties around the clock and a great selection of musicians. Dubbed “The island of freedom”, those seven days in August (10-17) are a place to have fun, meet people and dance non-stop, if you have the party power required (and we all know you do, after waiting for so long to get your vacation, right?). This year, the festival will welcome Rihanna, Muse, David Guetta, Sia, Manu Chao, Sigur Ros, Die Antwoord and a lot more cool kids.
Poetry, theater, pianos popping in the woods, fancy dresses, silliness… Yes, you are still reading about music, Bestival also invites around 1,000 artists on the stages. Their set of “mind-expanding music”, as they call it, this year starts with The Cure, Major Lazer, Hot Chip, Diplo, Fatboy Slim, and continues with awesome names. The four-day indie/dance event is held at the Robin Hill park on the Isle of Wight and often pilots odd ideas such as an inflatable church where people can get married (even if you’re marriage’s biggest opponent, you must agree that does sound fun!).
