In our reality change is constant. It is actually probably the only constant in our lives. People change the environment changes, the future changes every moment.
That is not something that could be said about Murdock's reality. He was living on the planet Omega Alpha, where all is unchanging. It is a place of endless dusk (the day and the night are a change), calmness and stable weather with no sun or clouds, for there was no wind to shift them. A place of stillness and endless exciting.
Murdock was one of 87 654 321 Omega A,'s inhabitants.
In a strange way this reality was a perfect home. He liked his life. In this reality one could eat and drink if s/he wants, for pleasure, not because s/he needs to, but only plants and water, for they don't need a change to exist.
On Omega A. the talks were great. Since there was nothing to chase, no age coming at you, no children, one could spend all the time s/he wants to with his/hers friends -the same guys s/he has known forever and with whom could discuss everything at all.
But when he got into thinking about it Murdock was not that happy. He wouldn't mind a change or two sometimes. On the other hand, he didn't know else, so the thought was scary and provocative as well as new. One can not be sure what would come of a change. It could be terrifying.
Dazzled in this reasoning, Murdock didn't notice the nearby tree's leaf... that fell down.
