A story never comes alone. In our everyday life we leave a trace with every movement we make. It doesn't matter if we talk about people we know or those we don't.
We don't think about the perception we are creating but it is there. Imagine yourself riding the bus in the morning. You are not doing anything out of the ordinary - you read your book or newspaper, listen to the radio or just look thorough the window. In the meanwhile a person is sitting across, sees you and thinks to him/herself "Is this book good?" or "I forgot to buy a newspaper, I wonder if it is going to rain today". S/he gets off the bus and goes to buy the newspaper/ the book and his/hers whole day or even week is changed because s/he has something new to read.
It is a very simple example, but it shows very clearly my point - that we interact every day with a number a people; some we notice, some we don't, but it is a power be obtain and should be careful with. Imagine what trace you would leave if you walk around frowning. all the time. You may even spoil someone's day. On the other hand, an ordinary smile can make the day for a number of people. Positive attitude generates energy that makes people create and built; but if we are charged with negative feelings all we do is destroy and get things wrong.
This is what I like about living in a village. When you know everyone you are aware of the impact you are leaving daily. There is no way you frown at your neighbor and on the other hand would be highly inappropriate and rude not to smile to them in the morning and even ask how they are doing. It doesn't really matter that you had a beer together last nigh and you know all about their problems (or the lack of such).
This is something we miss in our lives. The ordinary courtesy to greet people we know and smile at strangers and in this way leave a positive trace in their day. It is very simple and human-like, very small an effort, but it can really make a difference,
