Nour - обнови история, The man who was kidnapped by the big city - pre-history
Tom was reluctant to leave his small town, although he would not admit it. He reassured his mother that he has found a place to stay and would soon enough find a flat to rent.
The rents in the big city are high so he needs to work in two places to earn enough. He has not mentioned that.
"I will certainly not starve, nan! ", he repeats for the third time to his grandmother who, almost reduced to tears is trying to fit another jar of Tom's favorite jam in his bag, unsuccessfully. This makes Tom sad and irritated.
Kissing his mother's hand and saying goodbye to his father who is smoking on the window with his back turned takes the half-closed, almost bursting backpack from his grandmother's hands. He then stomps to the door and turning back to see his family and take a mental picture of them gets out and closes the door after himself.
On the way to the bus stop that would lead him to his new life he encounters Jenny, his schoolmate and his very good friend Ste.
"Hey, Tom! Where are you going with that jar in your hand?, asks Jenny."
"Oh, hey Jenny! Nice to see you. I'm going to the big city," says Tom with exaggerated enthusiasm. "I should get going."
Down a few blocks comes Ste with a beer in hand and smiles when he sees him.
"Well, hello mate. How you doin'?"
Tom is content to see him but he has to get to the bus shortly.
"Hey, Ste. What's up? I'm incredibly sorry but I gotta get goin'. The big city is waitin' for me."
As if to make a toast he raises his hand with the beer and drowning his "Cheers!" in a big gulp Tom leaves him with a smile upside down.
Jenny, his long-time friend knew Tom for longer than they both could remember. She knew him so well that the fake enthusiasm did not mislead her. She knew that Tom would rather stay in town with his job as a programmer and his friend rather than leave everything behind.
