The translation is pure magic. The ability to transform thoughts from one language to another is not just amazing, is wondrous. The moment when one could express his/hers thoughts in several languages or furthermore some else's thoughts is just miraculous.
The possibility of telling everything, anything, to a number of people who weren't able to understand it before is just intoxicating. It is true that there isn't a way that a translation can fulfill at 100% the meaning of the original (notes under line will always be needed), but the possibility of making contact with someone who can add to it or get inspired by it, makes the effort worth it in every way.
An interpreter is the one who spreads the word, who shows the message to the world. From that moment on a text (no matter the theme or the field) begins another type of life. It is elaborated from all restrictions and begins a different a new existence. It now belongs to everyone. This is in the same time extremely exciting and a little scary - now it is alone with its fans and with its critics.
Translating is a three-way communication. It includes the author, the interpreter and the reader. The second one is like bridge between two worlds. He/she is a kind of mediator, a connection between here and there, us and them. In most cultures the role of the mediator is a sacred one and for that reason worshiped (the crow for the Indians, the snake for the Romans and so on).
When translating something you haven't written yourself, many times is like entering the writer's head. You hear his/hers thoughts, you analyze his/hers logic, you take the same path of thoughts, you relive the story. Being able to see the world though another pair of eyes in even more intense than reading. It is pure magic.
