We are all connected. All the people, everywhere, every day. The way we live is different, our mindsets are different, our skin is different, but we are still the same. When I look at the people on the street I see a microcosmos behind every set of eyes. I sometimes try to imagine someone's life - who is he/she, where does the person comes from, what do they do for a living. Probably the stories in my head are a lot more interesting than the reality. The point is that I feel close enough to these strangers to want to know more about them.
Another very vivid example is the traveling - most people like to travel (although not everyone). So why do you go to a country except to see how other people live? Even if you have gone to see the nature, you still need to make contact with some local (at least to buy something to eat, if not to get to know them).
We read a lot about other countries and we say "It is like another world". Well, it is. But we still are interested and curious. Why? Because we, no matter if we want it or not, are connected to the rest of us. It is astonishing how people, so similar in their core, can create cultures, so different from each other.
The string that hold us all together is our curiosity for each other. And furthermore - our interest to the world and, it is sad for me to say it, our attempts to change it in our own way. And this has nothing to do with globalization. This is something we have inside us for all the human civilizations.
I think, that if the humanity holds on to these mutual interests, and not the economical ones, we are to live in a more natural and beautiful way. We are to make the world a more peaceful place. This is why I try to keep my curiosity alive. You can not be afraid of something you know, you have seen, you have tried and have liked. This is for me the "education" than Nelson Mandela means is his famous sentence - the education that makes us to know each other, to understand and to cherish. Because we are all connected.
